Inspired by mysticism and psychedelia, I worked on a series of self-portraits that layered environment, color gradation, and geometry to construct my face in an abstrated lens.

I took the same themes of my self-portraits (mysticism and psychedelia) of abstraction and limited myself to lines, squares and rectangles that I digitized and warped before painting it on canvas.

By this point, I refined my abstract portraiture to incompass smaller facial details, and experimented with textures and simpler palettes. Flattening the works allowed for the textures to shine through.

As told by Kristin Shore:
”Creativity, being the strongest of my spirits, it had shoved me in its preferred direction at a young age. After that, Determination took over, but not without competing with the worthy opponent, Anxiety. Creativity remained strong, but suffered greatly in the war within my mind. Determination ran me ragged and into the ground, exhausting not only my mind, but physical strength. Anxiety suckled all my support systems, drying out each reserve, some that could never be replenished again. With this piece, Creativity began to remerge and take over again. I think it must have been the slow rocking of the water, the repetition of the needle and thread weaving in and out, and the music that coaxed her out of her bomb shelter within my mind.“

Acrylic Panel + LED Assemblage
609.6 mm x 609.6mm
609.6 mm x 609.6mm
This portion of the piece was assembled with a hollow acrylic panelling, the figure etched on the center and a strip of LED lights wrapped firmly within the hollowed frame. Etching is inside the center piece and not outside giving the piece a sense of ambiguity and abstraction as the etching is harder to see with light passing through the translucent frame.

Originally developed alongside “Captain Spacey Have You Seen Me Lately” + “The Sun Looks Brighter Than Usual,” “EYES OF MIND” was largely unfinished and simple line work on canvas. Upon giving new life to my original self portraits as collectible NFT works, I sought to finish the third and final piece to the original triptych...though at this point, it’s really become it’s own work.
To be shown in collaboration with One/Off in Feb 2021 in “INTR:mssn Redux - The BYAHUS Solo Show.”

“We talk of the struggle of man; there is an intrinsic relationship between a man and his clothes. We explore the physicality of a man’s work: his burden, his trials and the unspoken art of balancing the weight of his work and the toll it takes over time.”
